Welcome back to Two Girls, No Chill.
This week, we're diving headfirst into the world of BookTok - smut, fantasy, romantasy, questionable fictional men, and probably a little chaos along the way.
We're talking about books we've already read and loved, some of what's currently on our never-ending TBRs, favorite tropes, booktok opinions and the books we just cannot put down.
What are you reading right now? What book do you think we NEED to add to our TBR? Let us know!
Follow us on our socials to keep up with all things Two Girls, No Chill, and as always, thank you for listening!
Now excuse us, just one more chapter.
A bunch of like um drop a legacy clips of us talking randomly about nothing before recording that I have saved so this could be a part of it beginning this. I think it called it like the banter that wasn't used.
SPEAKER_00Yes, we could put it on our Patreon.
SPEAKER_01Um I saw TikTok of a woman that was like, this is how much I make. Um, I forgot what she called it, but it was basically like phone sex. Okay. Um I forgot like what she called it. Um, but it was like an hour, a hundred dollars, something like that. And she just kept going the time it took and then the amount she was paid. And I was like, maybe I should do that.
SPEAKER_00I mean, I could talk on the phone. I'm pretty good at I'm very good at flirting. Yeah, yes, I could flirt very easily, I could flirt over the phone and get paid for it. I wow, listen to be quiet, easy, so sorry, easy money, easy money, really, truly. Um that's what I always say. I was like, listen, just give me a night. Give me that's what I want. I always say my sentence and I start laughing, but I'm just saying, give me a night, and I just want to see how much money I make. You know what I mean? Like, just just give me a night, and let me see how much money I actually can make, but I need to like not feel insecure, and let me see how much money I can actually make, yeah. And then you know, and then it's a wrap, and then I ain't going back.
SPEAKER_01No, I'm thinking I was making a lot of money doing something like that. I couldn't stop.
SPEAKER_00Exactly. That's what I'm saying. He's like, uh, I'm gonna be hooked. I'll be what's an addiction that's not an addiction? That making money, yes, absolutely. Easy money at that? Absolutely. That's what I'm saying. Just give me one night. Give me one night. Let me see how much money I can make. Oh, it's a wrap. Done.
SPEAKER_01I was just thinking about it right there. I'm summed out dollar signs in your eyes like pretty much cartoon.
SPEAKER_00Pretty much. Just a cloud.
SPEAKER_01It's like the perfect space. It is. We haven't done the bags. Oh my gosh.
SPEAKER_02Oh my god, I can't.
SPEAKER_00Oh Jesus. Oh god, what a fucking way to start.
SPEAKER_01It really is. That wasn't gonna be a talking point. I was just gonna tell you about it. And it transitioned. I mean, it's perfect answer.
SPEAKER_00Well, welcome back, guys. Hi. I mean, honestly, would you guys do it? Let us know in the comments. Would you truly honestly and what's your uh addiction that's not a addiction? That's the what's your addiction that's not an addiction? Let us know in the comments. I'm sh oh, I was just about to start drinking, but I was gonna be cheers. But I was gonna say, I was gonna ask you what you're drinking.
SPEAKER_01Pink pineapple lemonade refresher from Duncan.
SPEAKER_00I'm drinking, oh cheers. I'm drinking the blush pop uh zero refresher from Duncan. Not a sponsor. Not a sponsor. Not a sponsor. Not a sponsor. But goodness would I love to be. Oh I don't think they ever would, but I don't think they would ever sponsor anyone. You gotta be like dog. They're fine. You gotta be big potatoes.
SPEAKER_02Where we're very, very, very, very little potatoes.
SPEAKER_00Small baby potatoes. We're not the small baby potatoes. You gotta be very, very, very, very, very big.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_01Russet potatoes. Truly. Duncan doesn't need any anybody. Truly.
SPEAKER_00Anyways. Welcome back to Two Girls, Don't Chill. No plan, no filter.
SPEAKER_01There's a little bit of a plan.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, kind of. I mean, we have a topic for the day. But we're gonna go off topic a lot. Probably happens. It's gonna happen. It is going to happen. Um, but guys, we have a camera, which is why we look so nice and clear and crisp. And and you get to see full. You get to see full videos and not just clips. Yeah, yeah. Because honestly, before we were using phones, and then we would record, and then it would just stop recording on its own. But we know this, no, we would know when we're done recording, and then we'd go check, and then we'd be like, oh, it didn't record the whole thing. Record like that. And then we'd be devastated. Yeah. Yeah. So we just like, you know what? We'll just put whatever clips it is on our YouTube and uh rock out from there. So we are here now with a brand new camera. We've been upgrading just for you guys to see our faces. Hi. Um but today is the day that we talk about book books and other things. Although I know we're gonna book boyfriends trail every which way.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I usually do. It's okay. No filter. Yes. No trail. Anyways, what are you currently reading?
SPEAKER_00Um I currently am finishing or working on uh the Avatar series. Um I just finished book brain. My brain. My brain, hold on. Let me pull it up. I don't want to give you guys false information.
SPEAKER_01I'm a I'm a novice to all this, so um she hasn't yet to read any of them. I would have helped, but I don't know them. I I really don't. That's okay. Where's my library? So I've only read three. Three. Like what do you call them? Like romance.
SPEAKER_00Romancey. Well, I mean dark romance. Yes.
SPEAKER_01I guess they've all would fall into the dark category.
SPEAKER_00Um I've read everything. Um so I'm I just finished book four. I'm going on to a court of silver flames. I know that one's uh more revolving around Nesta and Cassian and their tension. I'm hoping it touches base on their uh chemistry because I know. I just know they're gonna bang. I just know it. I can feel it in my bones, I can feel it, I can feel it in my bones that they're gonna bang. I just know it. I just know it. Anyways, that's what I'm currently reading right now. Um, but yeah, I just finished uh A Court of Frost and Starlight um in the book series. But yeah, I am going on book number five, waiting on books six and seven to be released, which we'll be releasing coming up soon.
SPEAKER_01Ah okay, nice. Yes, well, I won't start until they're released.
SPEAKER_00They're they're they're hefty. They're hefty books. They're not small. Okay, fine. And there's a lot of them. I'll start soon. They're not they're not small books. They are hefty. They're they're big books. Um, but they are really they're really good books. Um the sixth book is supposed to be released in October, and then the seventh one, I believe, is supposed to be in January. Oh wow, okay. Yeah. They're hefty. They're hefty books. I'll check it out. Um, what are you currently reading or what you just finished? And what's your yeah, if you just finish what you were just currently reading.
SPEAKER_01Well yeah. I did just finish like an hour ago. Um hunting out a line. And oh boy, did I love that? Um, really good. Um I didn't know I would like dark romanticy. Um, but wow, that's all I gotta say. Um, and then I am gonna start reading Lights Up. Also a very good book.
SPEAKER_00Yes, I've read that one.
unknownI know.
SPEAKER_01Uh that's where I got the recommendation for everything I'm reading. Actually. Um, I'm not big like on book talk.
SPEAKER_00Yes. Me either. I mean, like I see a lot of like um people recommend me books and stuff like that. Like, I see a lot of that, and I like obviously I send it to you. Yeah. Um, but I'm not like in the culture because I'm not a lot. I'm not a lot. I swear, guys, I know English. I'm not a lot either. I'm not on TikTok a lot. That's what I was trying to say. Jesus.
SPEAKER_01Um I am, but just not on book talk. Um, my for you page is wildly different, but that's okay. Um my algorithm is changing to more books on Instagram. Yeah, for sure. Which is good. Yeah. Just gonna get more recommendations, but I'm excited to kind of see what book talk has out there.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it has a lot of um good recommendations out there. Definitely read the Avatar series. Um I highly recommend it. Yes, it has smut in it, um, but the action scenes are so good. Reading it, um, and being able to, because we can visually picture when we read. Oh my god, the fighting scenes are so fucking good, dude. They're so good. The way they describe everything with um with the fairies and the flying and the battles and the war, and then when they go into the mountain, oh my god, it's so fucking cool. Okay, it's so cool. Like, I love me a good smut book. Don't get me wrong. I love it when people bang, and the descriptions are hot, but the war and the fighting scenes and the action, oh my god, I love it. Like, it has me on the edge of my seat every single time.
SPEAKER_01Is it like like um Game of Thrones era sort of?
SPEAKER_00I've never seen Game of Thrones. Okay, is it like don't come for me? Do not come for me, do not, somebody will.
SPEAKER_01I know it's not me, it's gonna be somebody else. Um but like knights and queens and things like that.
SPEAKER_00I wanna say yes because there are queens. Um it takes place more in like the fairy realm. There's um divisions between the courts, um but it's not it's it's not really like human, it's a lot of like fee, high fee, okay, and all that stuff. Um if that makes sense. Yeah. I mean, yeah, kind of. I mean, there are like the queens and yeah, kings in a sense. Um okay, I'll give it a chance.
SPEAKER_01I just don't love like that genre of even like movie. I got into Game of Thrones when it first came out, so I really stuck with it. Um but I don't usually give those things chances.
SPEAKER_00Understandable.
SPEAKER_01Because of DD, the fairy fay kind of thing.
SPEAKER_00I think you'll get into it because of D. Yeah. I think that's why. I think so. I think that's why because of the fairies. Um because um not only that, there's there's different creatures in there. Um, there's saying where it's all weird. Um there are different creatures in there um that you can definitely see in DD. I'm not trying to say anything because I don't want to give anything away. Um, but there's the phone carver, um, there's the weaver, there's I just I don't want to see anything. That's convinced.
SPEAKER_01I'll check it out.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I definitely recommend. I feel like you're gonna enjoy it. I definitely feel like you're gonna enjoy it just because I feel like it'll touch base more on DD as compared to Game of Thrones. Because Game of Thrones is very like humans with dragons and all that stuff. Yeah, I get that. It's like knights and all that stuff. I think that's why I couldn't get into it. Um, but with Avatar, it's I want to say one, two, maybe three humans. Oh, okay. And the rest are Fey. Okay, and it's just a whole world and different chords, and it's so fucking cool, dude. All right, cool. I'll check that out. Like, yes, the smut is good, but oh man, the fighting scenes and the wars, and oh, you're gonna enjoy it. Okay, perfect. I think that's partially or mainly the reason why I really got into the books, um, is because of like all the action into it. The first book is a slow burn. You're gonna have to just power with it. Yes, just you know, power through it, stick with it. It's really slow at first, but I promise you it's worth it. Okay. If you guys agree, please comment below. Whoever's read Avatar. I just if you agree with me, please help me convince Sarah. But I really, really think you should read it. Okay, I will. I also want to try to read Fourth Wing. I heard it's really good. That's another series, yeah. Okay, and I know that one has to do with dragons. Oh, okay. So that one I wanna I wanna read. Okay. More series. I know. There's a lot of series. Yeah. My TBR list. It's so long, guys.
SPEAKER_01You don't even know. Unless you follow us on TikToks or Instagram.
SPEAKER_00Oh, there's been more added.
SPEAKER_01Oh my goodness. All right. What's next? What should we talk about?
SPEAKER_00Oh, since we were talking about haunting Adeline, um, it is uh very popular right now because it is getting a movie adaptation. My god, my English was trash today. That's okay. I said TikToks. I gotta take a deep breath.
SPEAKER_01Guys, it's a hot day. It's a Wednesday.
SPEAKER_00Can you tell we're wearing tink tops? Okay, it's getting a movie adaptation. Um, so it's trending right now. Um, we both are very uh team excited as hell. Um, we also learned that it's getting a graphic novel. Um I saw it and I was like, oh my god, Sarah.
unknownI know.
SPEAKER_01I need to get it.
SPEAKER_00Um, but the internet is hella divided on how they feel about the whole adaptation to it and stuff like that. And it's a very big um controversial thing because of the um how do you say it? Because of pretty much what the book is based about. Um it makes sense. Yeah, it I mean it does make sense. The book is very, very dark, but at the same time, it is a fictional book. Um, the book is also written by um H. E. Carlton, which she wrote it based off of her own basic base, based off of her own experiences, um which not obviously word for word written in the book, but everything that she wrote was her own life experiences. So, like she she gets it, she understands that it's a tough topic. Um, she's not glorifying what is written in the books um or any of that. Um, but I know a lot of people are saying um that's a movie that should be banned, um, and that they believe that um it's giving men an excuse to do what the people are doing in the book to women, which is great, um, which makes no sense to me, uh, because men have been doing that long before this book was even created, long before this person was even born, long before uh media was created, long before, you know, before the dawn of time. Um just for forever. Um, and don't get me wrong, women have also been doing it long before that as well. You know what I mean? It's not just um, you know, not just men doing it, but women have also been doing, you know, that as well. Um so it doesn't make sense to ban a movie just because it's going to people think it's going to influence someone to do the actions that are in this movie. If that's the case, then ban all movies. Literally all of them because that's just saying that everything that you see in a movie is gonna give the person an excuse to go do it in real life, right? So it just makes no sense to me. Um, but that's literally just like the hot topic right now. Um and it sucks and it's stupid, and it's it's just a tough topic, and obviously we're not for grape or any of that stuff for someone who was a long time ago. Um, it's not okay, we don't condone it. Um, but we do enjoy the book fiction again. Um, she worked really hard on this, she did experience all of those things. Um, but I mean it's gonna be a great movie. Well, let's just hope, you know, no one fucks it up with a mainstream actor. Uh yeah. Um, but they did cast Adeline already. Uh waiting for Satan Sibi to be casted. I dropped my mic. It's okay. That was a big spike. Oh. There you go. We're good. Um, and then you know, waiting for the music. I'm just excited. I think it's gonna be a great movie, you know? Yeah, I think it's gonna be great. If they were able to do Fifty Shades of Grey, they're gonna be able to do this. Yeah, it's like and there was controversy about that too, also. So it's gonna be fun. And they're also doing a movie adaptation on Lights Out. I'm excited. I can't wait to see Josh.
SPEAKER_01I can't wait to figure out what's happening.
SPEAKER_00It's going to be so good. I cannot wait. Cannot wait. Oh the next we have to do is uh butcher and blackbeard.
SPEAKER_01Oh that's my favorite so far, I think. Mostly because of the voice actor. Oh man.
SPEAKER_00For Rowan. For Rowan. The way he says it. Yeah, yeah. It's not Rowan, it's Rowan.
SPEAKER_01The Irish accent. Anyways. Um compose. Um, yeah, I'm good. I'm not sweating. It's such a good book. It is also um, yeah. That was my introduction to Functions Um Butcher and Blackbird. And then I went straight to Haunting Adeline. Yeah, that was a jump.
SPEAKER_00That was a jump. I was like, this is great. From little Orzo pastas to a haunted mansion. Yeah, even better.
SPEAKER_01Um, yeah, I really want to read um Leather and Lark. Leather and Lark.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that's gonna be a good one.
SPEAKER_01I forgot the other one. Scythe.
SPEAKER_00Scythe and something. Devil S's Scythe and something. Scythe and something. Scythe and something.
SPEAKER_01Um, but also before we move on, if you've read Haunting or Hunting Adeline, who would you see as Zayd being cast? Yes. There are some recomm not recommendations, but um names that people have put in the comments of some of the videos. And I'm like, no, no, no. Then there's that one.
SPEAKER_00There's that one. We're gonna put him right here. Right here. We're gonna put him right here. Tell me he isn't hot.
SPEAKER_01He'd be great. Tell me he isn't hot, and then go look him up because his voice, too.
unknownOh my god.
SPEAKER_01It's great. I don't know what's happening to us. Sorry. It's warm. It got warmer.
SPEAKER_00It's just a hot day.
SPEAKER_01It's just a hot day. It's just the sun, even though the window's covered. It's fine. Moving on. Now you've read more books than me. Yes. You've read a lot of dark romance too? Um, I wanna say yes. Yeah. Is there a line that can be crossed? Or no.
SPEAKER_00No? Okay. Listen. Um, the trigger warning page can be the length of the book, and I will still read it. Okay. Yeah. It's a book.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I feel like the hunting, haunting Adeline didn't have no warnings. No trigger warnings. You warned me.
SPEAKER_00I did warn you. I was your trigger warning. Yeah. No one trigger warned me except for the gun scene. That trigger warned me. Um but no, uh, that did not have trigger warnings. The only one I remember having a trigger warning was a bookcher and BlackBercher. Yeah. Um, but yeah, no, I mean, I'm I don't have a hard time reading books. Yeah, me neither. It's not that's not something that bothers me. I think the only thing I have a hard time watching is broken bones. That's the only thing, but like reading about it. No.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Like I might be like, ooh, while I'm reading it, you know what I mean? Because I can visualize it, but I can't physically see it. Right. So I'm okay. Yeah, it's nothing to say. I'm fine reading it. I'm fine reading. Yeah. Yeah, there's no like line drawn in the sand.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I feel like I've learning I'm the same way.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Yeah. I don't know uh what it is about books, but I have no problem just reading anything. Yeah. As long as it piques my interest and it's fascinating to me, I can read it. Okay.
SPEAKER_01Well, can't wait to read more. Same.
SPEAKER_00Same, same, same. Oh, excuse me. I'm sorry, guys. I burped. I don't even know if you heard that. I didn't. Oh. Well.
SPEAKER_01I mean, maybe I just wasn't paying attention. That's okay.
SPEAKER_00That's okay. I just, you know, snitched on myself. Um, you want top? You want top? Do you want to talk about I mean I was thinking about it. I know I saw your face.
SPEAKER_01Anyways. What the hell?
SPEAKER_00Guys, we'll be right back. Do you want to talk? Trope? Talk? Yes. All right. Um, what's your fave?
SPEAKER_01I haven't read enough. Oh, sweetie. I know. And movies kind of have tropes, yeah. Not super outwardly.
SPEAKER_02Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_01Um, I mean, out of the ones that I've seen on our outline, because we create outlines sometimes. Um, I feel like, well, like the I'm just gonna keep referencing the Adeline series and Butcher and Blackboard, those are both enemies to lovers. I love that.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that's my favorite.
SPEAKER_01Um, but I'm not opposed to like friends to lovers. Um, what does forced proximity mean?
SPEAKER_00Uh forced proximity is like um that they're made to be together or um no, like if like they're roommates or if they work at the same building, or like if they're stuck on like a ship together, or like anywhere that they're like forced to be together. Close. Yeah. Okay. I like that. Okay.
SPEAKER_01One bed, just like they share a bed.
SPEAKER_00Kinda. Like they they did that um off campus with Hannah and Garrett. Yeah. That's that's a trope. Sure. They also did that. Um, I don't know if you didn't watch it, but this is also a book. Um, The Summer I Turned Pretty. Oh. With uh Belly and Conrad. They did the they did the one bed thing. Okay.
unknownSure.
SPEAKER_00Um, there's also the Friends to Lovers, which is Huh?
SPEAKER_01I'm good with that.
SPEAKER_00Okay, which is um They start off as friends. Mm-hmm. And they turn you saw that with Story with Life. You saw that with uh with Dean and Allie. Um fake dating. Yep. You saw that. Yeah. I'm trying to think of like ones that you've seen. Yeah. Um yeah, anyway, so lovers. Uh say Adeline. Uh Sloane Rowan. Um trying to think of.
SPEAKER_01I feel like the Tatcher and die is also a little bit line.
SPEAKER_00Yes, the tatter and die. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. With the hands.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Love that.
SPEAKER_01Um, I feel like Grumpy and Sunshine is seems a little corny.
SPEAKER_00The Grumpy and Sunshine? Yeah. That seems a little cheesy. It's like uh uh black hat golden retriever energy. That's what that is.
SPEAKER_01No, I know. Maybe the grumpy and sunshine made it sound more cheesy.
SPEAKER_00Gives me the ache. A little bit. Mm-hmm. Yeah, yeah. Um mines is enemies for lovers. It's your favorite. Yeah. Yeah, for sure. Um the hell is that? The hell is that? What? What? Well, let me pause this. Guys, we're gonna take a quick break. Oh no.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. For the video, you'll probably just see our logo or something.
SPEAKER_02And we are back. Okay.
SPEAKER_00Okay. Honestly, I'm not gonna lie, I forgot.
SPEAKER_01Oh, we were on tropes. Okay. Um, we both said our favorite is probably well, your favorite's animated lovers.
SPEAKER_00Oh yes, yes, yes. I think that's probably my favorite. Yes. My least favorite um is actually Friends to Lovers. Oh. I know. Okay.
SPEAKER_01It's kind of just like it's just a natural progression, so it doesn't make it exciting.
SPEAKER_00No, not at all. That's like, okay, we know you're gonna get there, whatever. Yeah. We know you're gonna get there. We know you're gonna get there, whatever.
SPEAKER_01I feel like all my relationship started that way. Friends.
SPEAKER_00Mine did too. And they both failed.
SPEAKER_01Well, I'm sorry.
SPEAKER_00It's okay. It wasn't me. No, it could never be.
SPEAKER_01Insane if somebody even implied that. I have to fight them. And I'm a pacifist.
SPEAKER_00So oh my god. I don't know how that would happen. Do you know what I used to say all the time? Like, I'm a pacifist. I'm a pacifist up your ass if you fuck with me. I used to say that all the time in high school.
SPEAKER_01I can't say the same. I'm actually a pacifist.
SPEAKER_00And that's what makes us so great. You don't choose violence, and I choose violence. Yeah. Only to protect. Only to protect. That's it.
SPEAKER_01No other reason. Oh my gosh, guys. I mentioned something earlier before the pod, and she went wild about that guy.
SPEAKER_00I was like, oh, is he single?
SPEAKER_01Should I tell him about this? I mean, he's gonna say it anyways. Thirty-nine minutes in timestamp.
SPEAKER_02Oh gosh.
SPEAKER_00Oh my god. I want the other guy. Oh when you know, we're talking about too many men here. Gross. Not okay. But go ahead. Talk about the other guy. No, I don't want to. No, talk about the other guy. Talk about the other guy. Talk about the other guy. Because I want all of us to write at dawn. Talk about him. Okay.
SPEAKER_01Well, this guy. Oh, this would be a good book too. Um, we were talking. Um, so we were talking, uh, we met on a dating site and he was in the military and ended up being married, supposedly separated, um, but I didn't know that. Um, his wife messaged me. And then when I broke it off, um, he just called me a whole bunch of names, different things, terrible names.
SPEAKER_00Called her a whore. Yeah, I don't know why. Listen. Oh my gosh. Listen. I would have known this. I would have known this. Would have fucked your shit up. We read it on, everyone. We ride it on.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and then um the other guy that she was talking about just now. Just stand on the phone with me while I cried. Um, very sweet of him. So the other one was the one I was talking about that she went off on earlier.
SPEAKER_00Yes, piece of shit.
SPEAKER_01Is that a is that a trope?
SPEAKER_00Piece of shit. Piece of shit trope. Imagine.
SPEAKER_01I'm sure that's somewhere.
SPEAKER_00I'm sure there is. Toxic trope. Check. That was fun. Oh, anyways. I was gonna say, not that I remember, start going after what's this face? Um, we were doing check-ins.
unknownI forgot.
SPEAKER_00We did we did check-ins, we did oh, we're drinking this and this, and then we just dived straight into it. We really did. Um, I have an update. I have a life update. Okay. I have a therapy appointment.
SPEAKER_01Oh my gosh. Give it up. Everybody clap. Uh I'm gonna add claps all over the place. Oh my gosh. How exciting. When is it? Um okay, we'll get back to that. It's okay.
SPEAKER_00It's fine. It's a schedule. It's in two weeks. It's in two weeks. It's in two weeks. It's in two weeks. It's oh my gosh. We were in Target, and I was about to blurt it out, but I was like, wait, no, I have to save this for the pod.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. I was like, well, you just gave me blue balls. So that's cool. I'm so sorry.
unknownI'm so sorry.
SPEAKER_00That's okay. I'm better now. I know. I finally told you uh you wanted to know.
SPEAKER_02And I almost forgot.
SPEAKER_00And I almost forgot. I would have asked you. I know, and then I would have been like, no, we gotta save it for next time. Thank goodness. Tune in next week. For Shamel's news. Well, my dumbass was gonna say tune in next week for Dragon Ball.
SPEAKER_01Oh gosh. The last four minutes will just be Next on the last four minutes of the 20 minute episode.
unknownOh my god.
SPEAKER_01Oh my gosh. I'm okay. I'm okay. Well, I'm on medication. No medication. And I think it's a placebo effect, but it's working. I mean, she's remembering shit. I'm remembering things. It like unlocked a pair a part. Oh, a part of my brain. It's like a breath of fresh air. It is. I mean, you're writing a DV campaign. Yay! Yeah. I've been wanting to for years. Oh yeah. I have another update. Oh. Gosh. Middle of the episode. How exciting. Or end. I mean, we've been talking forever.
SPEAKER_00I know. Well, I still wanted to give out some book recommendations and um uh mention the ones that the listeners gave. Oh yeah. Um well we can do another episode too. Um I started watching Critical Roll.
SPEAKER_01I could cry. What do you mean? What are you watching?
SPEAKER_00I started watching their first campaign and I was like, I can't do this. This is way too I was like, this is way too amateur and it's like watching myself. I was like, I can't do this. So I think it's their fourth campaign.
SPEAKER_01Third? Is it uh who's DMing? That's uh Chubier.
SPEAKER_00I guess I don't know. I don't know names. You will, yeah, but right now I don't. Anyways, that was my update.
SPEAKER_01How exciting. I know.
SPEAKER_00I kind of think exciting the second you said I started a DD campaign. I was like, oh yeah, I should probably tell her this. Yes, that man. Okay. That one's good.
SPEAKER_01Okay, I would recommend their third campaign though. I mean their second. Their second? Yeah. Um, it's called Mighty Nine. Okay. Um just because that one has very it has one of my favorite characters that they've ever done. Um actually like three of my favorite characters of all of your campaigns um are in that campaign. So but like tell me what uh did you watch episode one fully or halfway through it?
SPEAKER_00We can save that for uh for Geek Corner. Okay, tune in next time.
SPEAKER_01We're definitely gonna do another book talk episode too. I mean, yeah, we can. Yeah, for sure. Like updates, you know, a few weeks down the line. Yeah, absolutely. Read more after I've read more, I should say. Yeah, absolutely. But let's get back to the recs.
SPEAKER_00Yes. Um, there were two recs from our lovely listeners that I do want to give a shout out to. Um, there was one from Hugo Farfan, and they recommended Short Stay in Hell by Stephen L. Peck. Oh, I added it. Okay. Oh, I added it. Best believe I added it. Oh, no, don't start that. Don't you dare.
unknownHold on.
SPEAKER_00What is happening? Guys, listen to me. I'm gonna just read you kind of like the synopsis. Oh, okay. Um, an ordinary family man, geologist, and Mormon, Soren Johnson, has always believed he'll be reunited with his loved ones after death in an eternal hereafter. Then he dies. Soren wakes to find himself cast by a god he has never heard of into a hell whose dimensions he can barely grasp. A vast library he can only escape from by finding the book that contains the story of his life. Yeah. Mm-hmm. Okay. Sounds very intriguing. Oh my god, I'm six so excited. And then we got another rec from the one and only Christina. Um there is it in store. There we go. Um, she recommended Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno Garcia. Okay. I'm gonna give a synopsis. I just gotta find it. Okay. This story takes place in the demure 1950s and stars a headstrong self-possessed heroine who more than holds her own in a conflict, especially where men are concerned. Noemi, a young Mexico City socialite, receives a desperate and disturbing letter from her beloved cousin, Catalina. So Noemi leaves her glamorous cosmopolitan life behind to check on her. She soon discovers that Catalina's new life in a spooky, dilapidated country estate, is full of scares, the creepiest of all being her sexy but sinister new husband, British exbate Virgil Doyle. Moreno Garcia's love of gothic horror shines through, and her knowing nods to classics. Ooh. Okay, send me that one. All right, so those are the two recks that we got from two listeners, and then I have a wreck. Okay. Okay. I was gonna say, I was like, do you have one? I can find one. Um mine is called Shallow River by H.D. Carlton. Um when River McAllister escaped from the shallow hill, she left her innocence behind and some of her sanity. Now she's rebuilding her life with her dream man, and life couldn't be better. Ryan Fitzgerald is everything you'd want in a man, attractive, rich, and inspiring lawyer, and would do anything to keep River. But that's not the only thing that attracts her. It's his attentiveness and possessiveness, but maybe not so much his temper. When her relationship takes a dark turn, Ryan's estranged brother, Mako, is the only one who sees it. He knows exactly what Ryan is capable of, and it's not the first time he had to be the knight in shining armor. River came from Shallow Hill, though. She's never needed saving before. What Mako doesn't see is that River is perfectly capable of taking care of herself. The only one who should be scared is Ryan. Oh, I like that.
SPEAKER_01Exciting. Yeah. Man. I mean, as a baby, dark romanticy slash romanticy. Um, butcher blackbird. For sure. Um, if you don't have any kind of experience, uh, that was a good one to start with. Butcher and Blackbird. So I recommend that. I don't have a synopsis. I'm sorry. But there are trigger warnings in the beginning. Yes. So you can decide. It's good though. And the voice. The voice. I'll just leave it at that. I'm a sucker for an accent. Pretty much any accent. Just throw on an accent.
SPEAKER_00Just throw out an accent and you're fine. You're fine.
SPEAKER_01Um that thing, that trend of like, he's a 10, but and then you name something that's like terrible about them.
SPEAKER_00He's a 10, but he has an accent. No, not even.
SPEAKER_01He's a two, but he has an accent. Well, he's bumped up to like a seven.
SPEAKER_00In my book. Not for fictional men. Be like, he's a two, but he's six foot four. Oh. Yeah. He's a two but he's obsessed with you and will hurt anyone who touches you.
SPEAKER_02Oh shw.
SPEAKER_00And then a real life would be like, oh no. Yeah. No, no. Jail. What are you doing? Immediately jail. In a book? Okay. Hey.
SPEAKER_01Real life jail. Real life? Almost any man? Jail. Jail. Jail.
SPEAKER_00In a book?
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_00Why? Because it's fiction.
unknownGuys.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. It's not real.
SPEAKER_01Use your brain. Yes, please. It's easy. Anyways. Thanks so much for joining us. Yes. This one was chaotic. From dropping the mic, oh my god. The camera dying. Yes. Um, both of us stuttering a little bit. Um, you know, it's been a day. This was a good one. This was fun. Hope you enjoyed. Till next time. Goodbye. Bye. Read responsibly. Of course, this darn thing always just shuts off.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_01Got it. Thanks for listening.
