There. Oh. You know what? That's very smart. I'm just gonna do that. Who needs a coaster? I'm just gonna take this off. Oh, perfect fit.
SPEAKER_00Mine's really low. Oh look at the oh wait, yeah, you're just taller than me.
SPEAKER_01I am taller than you. Do you want to go up higher?
SPEAKER_00No.
SPEAKER_01Are you sure? Yep. Cool beans. Alright. Maria cookies, where's the mayonnaise? Ew. Disgusting. Not ew. Oh, it's stuck. It's not disgusting. No, it's not. It truly is. You can't knock it so you try it. And have you tried it with vanilla pudding? No, but that sounds way better. Yeah, because sweet and sweet. Yeah. Have you ever had them with butter? Probably. Okay. Yeah. So you're halfway there. Have you had some like saltines or anything like that with butter? I mean with mayonnaise.
SPEAKER_00No. You are missing out. I don't like mayonnaise. In my tuna? Yes. That's it.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, with corn.
SPEAKER_00Yes. Always.
SPEAKER_01No, you have to try it. I know you don't like mayonnaise, but just a little bit. Just try it once. I don't think I can. No? Not even like once. No. Alright, well then I guess try it with vanilla pudding.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_01You know me and my weird uh mixes.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, you know what's crazy? Somebody I worked yesterday? The day before. And um she was like, Oh, do you guys like apples in your potato salad? So crunch.
SPEAKER_01I was like, yes. No, I do. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. I don't get it. I don't get the fascination. It's cold. No. It's just gaslighting me into thinking. Yeah, because it's gaslighting me into thinking that I'm eating potato salad and I'm going in for like a little chunk of potato and it turns out to be a piece of apple. That's disgusting. I can't. I cannot do it. No, thank you. I haven't had it in a while. Me either.
SPEAKER_00You don't like it. Yeah. So I know. If it was available, you still would have liked it.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, no. I'm set in stone on that one. No, thank you. I don't like it. Don't like it at all. That's okay. You don't like that. I don't like mayonnaise. You still have to try the oh my gosh. Try it here. Yes. Strawberry milk with white bread. It's delicious. Just dip your dip your bread in the milk. It's delicious. You can't knock it, so you try it.
SPEAKER_00Anyways. I will not try that. I feel like you're a little far from the mic. Wait. Talk. Yeah. Oh no, that's good.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. I'm loud. Sure. Same. Sometimes. Guess. Sometimes you're gonna be quiet. Yeah. Welcome to Two Girls No Chill. I'm Chamel. I'm Sarah. And this is the podcast filled with chaotic banter. No filter. No chill. And I'm glad you're here with us. But today's gonna be a very fun episode for Sarah. Because it's for the nerd. Um, she's gonna teach me how to play a DD. I was never into it. I didn't even give it the time of day. Someone wanted to teach me back then. This was before I met Sarah. Um, and I was just like, I don't get it. I just don't get it. I just didn't understand it. And then she spams me with a bunch of reels and all this really good videos on um DD players and doing their campaigns and stuff like that. And I was just like, oh my god, I feel all the fuels, all of the fuels. Um so yeah. So now she's very happy to take me under her wing and teach me, or at least give me the gist of it. Yes, I don't think we wanna make you guys suffer through an entire DD episode. I guess I do multiple if we can. Uh we're probably gonna have to do multiple ones. Oh, look at us reaching for the cup and it got stuck, right?
SPEAKER_00Yep, I was real slow trying to get it out quietly. No ice isn't quiet either. Sorry. Oh, ASMR. I don't really like ASMR, but that was cool. That was really nice. I like that. Let me see why. That's a nice sound.
SPEAKER_01Honestly, yeah. I like that. That's like the perfect sound for iced coffee.
SPEAKER_00I have notes on my phone, so don't mind me. But what do you think DD is?
SPEAKER_01Um, I think it has a lot to do with imagination. Um, I know there's one person that my bad, guys. Hold on, let me mute my watch. Ding. What the oh press the wrong button. My bad.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_01Um so I know there's one person that kind of like tells everyone to what to do. Um, and then everyone else that's in the campaign kind of creates their own character, I'm assuming. Yeah. Um, and you just go on like adventures in your brain. And that's the hard part for me. But you like reading. I love reading, but I'm actually reading, not the other way around when somebody like is kind of telling me it that makes sense. I don't know. I mean again, I've never even given this time of day.
SPEAKER_00Okay. So DD is it's a role-playing game, so it is storytelling. Okay, but the DM, who's the dungeon master, um, sometimes they might have like a set story that they go by, but the really good ones will improv everything. Okay, they'll have a basic outline of their world, maybe um a little bit of the story fleshed out, but in a reality, the players can do whatever they want. That's cool. Yeah. So, um, an example. I play with three guys, and I'll say their names because I'm gonna tell a story. Oh, yeah. Um, but it's my brother Ricky. Oh, he's gonna love this. Damn it. Yeah, he's gonna be like, you should have invited me for this episode. Like, shut up. Um, and then our friends Murgam and John. The campaign we're doing right now is John as the DM. The last campaign we did was Ricky as a DM. And so a lot of the time DMs want you to follow like a set path, yeah, realistically. Um, but if the characters decide to kind of go off that path and do whatever they want, you kind of just have to go with the flow. Okay. Or you can try and force them back on the paths in some way. So my brother, in his campaign, he was more of the improv, like, just let whatever happened happen. That's dope. Yeah. So at one point, we were maybe like two years in, and there's really no end, clearly, unless you create one. Um, like if there's a big bad and you beat the big bad, then sure, that could be the end of a campaign. Okay, but you could also just create more big bads, of course. Um, so in my brother's campaign, it was the three of us, and we ran into a demon, and she's super, super, super powerful. My brother being a good DM like gave us chances to walk away.
SPEAKER_01Oh, okay. Walk away, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Um, like in character, he was like, You don't want to do this. And we're like, Yes, we do, probably not, but we're gonna try. We didn't actually try the first time. We had an NPC with us, which is a non-player character. Okay. Um, so anything that the DM takes over is an NPC. We had an NPC with us, and Murgium's character is a I think he was a Goliath, which is like a big, strong fighter guy. Okay, like could be really dumb, just fight. Okay, okay.
SPEAKER_01Meathead kind of situation.
SPEAKER_00Yes, yes. So he had this sword that if you roll a d20 and get a 20, like natural 20 on the dice, it would um decapitate the person that you're fighting.
SPEAKER_01Oh my god.
SPEAKER_00So my brother, as the demon, charmed the NPC or charmed Murgam's character, the Goliath, and he had him roll to attack the NPC, and I rolled a natural 20. So we decapitated the NPC. Nice. We're like, okay, moving on, let's go. Yep. So we're like, okay, we're gonna leave. Um, and he gracefully let us leave. But then we leveled up once, and Murgam and John were like, we should go back. Yep. I was like, We're stronger now, we can do this. No, um, and then my brother already warned us, so he killed us all.
SPEAKER_02Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_00So in that case, he had a whole story set up, but because we want to do whatever we want to do, and they wanted to fight a demon, yep, yep, yep. It killed us. Well, it killed me, and then it like imprisoned Mirgame and John's character. So then that's a yeah, yes, yeah. So that's how the last campaign ended. So really, it's like the characters are writing the story. Okay. Um, it's a little more fun than somebody telling you what to do. Okay. Um, that's probably like the biggest misconception. Like it's not a laid-out story, it's something you just literally improv, you roleplay. So for me, I'm naturally shy, I don't talk a lot, unless it's like like a topic that I know, like this.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Um, so in-game, I try and make my characters as charismatic and like outgoing as possible. The opposite.
unknownYes.
SPEAKER_00So so like this campaign that we're running now, um, I play a rogue, and rogues are usually like all black, in the shadows, sneaky, sometimes like really emo. Okay. Um, but I'm playing her as first of all, a fur bulk, which is a race. I was gonna say I was like, I don't know what the fuck that is, which is like almost like a cow person. Okay. So this is my character. Oh, I'll add a picture on Instagram. Okay, um, but obviously she's wearing all black. Okay, um, but silver hair, blue skin, um, tall as hell, like seven feet tall. So a robe that's seven feet tall. Try and hide somewhere. Um, and I'm bubbly as hell. Okay, I'm so bubbly. I want to know everything about everybody. I have a crush on one of the NPCs, and then I think I start having a crush on like a girl at some point. I don't know, a lot of things happened all over the place.
SPEAKER_01I love it.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it's really fun. Um, so that's kind of the gist of the main topic of DD. Okay storytelling and roleplay. Okay. Um, I like it because it could be whoever you want to be. Um and even though it's with friends, you can still kind of get into character, get into the story. So you can kind of say whatever you want, do whatever you want. Okay. Even though you're just talking to your friend. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Now, is that still considered nerdy? Probably.
SPEAKER_01I was gonna say, I was like, I don't know.
SPEAKER_00It's very popular now. It came out like decades ago, but it's super popular now.
SPEAKER_01I think now with social media and more ways to like put your shit out there, it's gotten way more popular.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I super nerd out on it because I watch Critical Role. That I know. I love them so much. Those are like four-hour long episodes, and I can watch them over and over and over and over again. Okay. Their first campaign, I think it was like 180 episodes. Holy shit. I think it was about that.
SPEAKER_01It's like watching an anime.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Because animes are okay, long shit. Except triple it because they're like four hours long.
SPEAKER_01It's like watching a Marvel movie twice.
SPEAKER_00I know it's great. I love it. But let me tell you, well, hold on. Do you have any questions about the general gist of it first?
SPEAKER_01No, I can grasp all of that. Cool. I'm probably gonna have questions after. Yeah, it's natural.
SPEAKER_00Um so some of the classes you can be. Um, like I said, I was a rogue. Um uh my last campaign, I was a cleric, which is a healer. Okay. Um they can either be spiritual, usually they're spiritual, um, but sometimes they're um but they get their power from a god, but not always. Um, and if they don't get the power from a god, they could be, I think it's called a paladin, or the paladin is religious, the cleric can be not okay. Um, so my cleric character, you think a healer is like nice and you know, outgoing.
SPEAKER_01You were a raging bitch. I was a bitch, yes.
SPEAKER_00I was like hiding my past for everybody. I was an elf for that campaign, so they lived to like 400 years old. So I was like 160. Oh, you were a baby. Oh, yeah. Um, so I lived a lot of life. Um, so the other characters in this instance was Mergam and Ricky. They were always trying to like ask me questions about myself or my past. Um there was a time when we played like two truths and one lie and one lie, um in character, and so I had to figure something out. Jesus. Um, but like I had been married and all this stuff, so but yeah, I wasn't mean to everybody. Good. It was fun. Oh, I believe it. Um you can be a fighter, which is self-explanatory. Um, they're pretty good with like all weapons usually, um, and they like up close battle. Um Barbarian is what Murgam's character was. So they're just kind of super strong, um big weapons, up close fighting, okay, lots of health, so they can take a lot of hits too. Okay. Um and then there's a rogue who's usually pretty sneaky. Um, they get this extra damage called sneak attack. So if they are like hiding and they come out of hiding, they get that extra damage. Nice. There's a bard who's like magical, but also in some way also entertainer. So in critical role, I'll say the bard character in the first campaign was a singer, like he would make up songs to like inspire people, okay, things like that. Um there's a ranger, those are they on here it says the wilderness expert. Um, but they're good at tracking, they're good at survival, they have like a beast companion usually. Okay. So in the first campaign um of Critical Roll, there's a character called Vexalia, and she had a bear named Trinket. Oh, that's cute.
SPEAKER_01Big ass bear named Trinket.
SPEAKER_00Huge, huge dainty ass name. Um, they also have they can be, they can have a favorite em enemy. So if that if they're fighting that enemy, or if the enemy's nearby, they have advantage like on attacks or checks of any kind to kind of decipher the situation.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_00And then there's wizard, which is also pretty self-explanatory. Um, very powerful, but not very meaty. Like they can die quickly or get hurt easily. Okay. But they have really big spells, um, they can cause a lot of damage too. Okay. There's also like a sorcerer, there's a gunslinger, there's a lot. But those are like the main like seven, however many I said. Um, and then there's races, so you can be human. They're not super beefy all the time, so they can die a little faster. Look at us.
SPEAKER_01Look at us as a whole entire race.
SPEAKER_00Um, but each of the races and each of the classes, you get extra like proficiencies in different things. Um, you can also be an elf. They're pretty like depending on which one you pick. Because there's a moon elf, there's a high elf, there's a dark elf. Okay. Um, but usually they can live basically forever. Um they have like um they're part of the fee realm, like they get powers from the fee realm. Okay. So they can't be like snuck up on, they have like an advantage against being charmed. Um you can also be a half elf, and you still have some of those advantages. Um, you can be a dwarf, really tiny little dwarf. Um, but they're usually beefy.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I can imagine. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Um, there's a halfling, which is like just a smaller human kind of. Okay. But they're lucky, and they're pretty stealthy because they're small. Um, and they have like a natural charm to them. Uh, you can be a dragonborn. Um, so you have some powers like a dragon, so you have like a breath weapon, you're like proud and strong. Um, that's why I have a crush on my current campaign. It's named Obi. And he's a dragonborn.
SPEAKER_01And does it do they do they look like dragons? Yes. Like an actual dragon.
SPEAKER_00Yes. Yeah. They're not like ginormous like a dragon. Okay. But I'll show you pictures.
SPEAKER_01Okay, yeah, I'm gonna need visual because what I'm picturing is probably not accurate.
SPEAKER_00There's an Aesomar. They're basically angels, they're like celestial beings, they're basically like natural protectors. Almost all of these uh classes have magic. Okay. And the only one that doesn't is like dwarf and Goliath. Like naturally. You could have powers because of the class you choose, so it depends. And then there's something called a tiefling, which is kind of like a demon, but not really. So the tooth pair? No, tiefling.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it sounds like teeth. Is it you're saying teeth? Like teeth? No, T-I-E-F-E-E. Okay. Yeah, but it sounds like you're saying teeth. Soft and the picture is like a monster that's made out of teeth. Uh these are tieflings. Oh definitely different. Dragonborns? We're gonna put pictures up, guys.
SPEAKER_00These are dragonborns.
SPEAKER_01Okay. So I get to have the kind of what I pictured.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Okay. Okay.
SPEAKER_00Anything else you need to see?
SPEAKER_01Uh whatever you want to show me.
SPEAKER_00I'll show you Goliath. Okay. Goliath. They're big big boys too.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_00Beefy guys.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, makes sense. It makes sense. Matches the name. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Any questions?
SPEAKER_01When you're in a sense, like how do I put this into words? Um, so when you like, when you guys like link up and you're making like a whole brand new campaign or whatever, do you like does your characters like have to like support one another? Like, how do you know what's the best type of character to pick? Or do you just say, fuck it, this is my character, this is my character, this is my character, and they just have to figure it out how to unite and help each other out? Or do you guys like specifically pick like oh let me be this, let me be this, let me be this? Is there ever like the same type of person?
SPEAKER_00Magic. Because you could do whatever the fuck you want. Okay. Usually you probably would want a healer at least.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00At least one healer. Um, or somebody that can heal. Okay. Um, there are like healing potions in the game. Okay. You can buy them, but then you're wasting money, which you don't usually have a lot of, unless you get some by working. Um, but in this campaign that we're doing now, there's not a lot of um magic users. Like specifically, John made it so that there's not a lot of magic users. So there is some magic, but not like clerics, no bards, no um wizards, no sorcerers. But there's like a paladin who's like a fighter but can also heal.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_00Um as a rogue, I took the trickster domain domain, so I have some magic as well. Okay. Um, mine is not really healing, it's more for like finding things or disguising myself or going invisible. Um, but for Ricky's character, he's a ranger, so he has some healing spells, okay, but nothing that would like resurrect any of us. That would be a cleric.
SPEAKER_01And the ranger's the one that has the animal.
SPEAKER_00Yes.
SPEAKER_01What's his animal?
SPEAKER_00A squirrel.
SPEAKER_01Um could you imagine? A big ass beefy squirrel, though. Like 11 foot tall squirrel. You know, that could be a thing.
unknownExactly.
SPEAKER_01Or it could just be like the teeny tiniest one-inch squirrel.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it could be. I mean, there's a thing called an owl bear. What the fuck is that? I'll show you.
SPEAKER_01Um an owl bear? Half owl, half bear? Pretty much. A bear with wings. Essentially. And an owl face. That is terrifying. Imagine that shit comes at you. Hold on. A fetal position.
SPEAKER_00My character's name is May. Take me now. Take me now. I feel like I I've only ever done like pretty gender-neutral names. I've just realized. Right in this moment. My current character's name is May. My last character was Leo. The one we did like a little mini game with one of our friends who lives um out of this out of the city. Maybe like an hour and a half away. But he came down to run a game just for one session. And that character was Cece. I guess that's the most female name, but majority of them are pretty. Like the Leo is Leonel. Okay. May is Maven. So, but I I shortened both of them. Okay. And even Cece was something else. But yeah, you can make up names. You can literally describe your character however you want. You could say she has like big tits, a fat ass, tall as hell, or she gave you like a shit. I love how that's like your screen. I mean sorry.
SPEAKER_01I can't help it. No, it's fine.
SPEAKER_00But that's really cool. Like you could literally make whoever you want. Okay. In reality, you probably want at least a healer and at least somebody that does like up close fighting.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_00Um, and that could take the brunt of like a lot of attacks. Um, and like maybe one magic user. That's like the good trio to have. Okay. Um, but technically you could do whatever you want. You could have two healers, you can have no fighters, you can have just a bunch of fighters.
SPEAKER_01If you don't have any fighters.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it'd be harder.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Um, like a lot of the rogues' attacks are far away because it's either with a bone arrow or daggers. Okay.
SPEAKER_01Um how do you get the daggers back? Well, so they just magically reappear. I have a bracer. What the fuck is that?
SPEAKER_00A magical item that goes on your arm. And it just like bracers. They just appears daggers for me.
SPEAKER_01Like your Spider-Man. Yeah. Oh my god.
SPEAKER_00Daggers. Yep, so I can literally fling two daggers and then shoot my crossbow. So I have three attacks, tactically. Mm-hmm. Because the bracer allows me to throw two as one attack. Um so I'm usually far away. Um, Murgam, this campaign is a fighter, so he's usually close up. Um, I do have a sword too, or a rapier. I I don't I think it's a rapier, which is just like a thin sword. I was gonna say I was like so I can fight up close. Okay. Um, but for the most part, I'm I'm usually far away. Okay. Um and then Ricky's character is a ranger. He picked this very goaded like concoction of like class and subclass, and he multiclassed. He is essentially invisible in shadows. So if he's in a shadow, the enemy can't see him.
SPEAKER_01Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_00It's really cool. So um, but he's also range usually. Okay. So we have one up close, two range. Um, and then I have a pet. I have a spell called Find Familiar. Okay. So if I actually do the spell the way it's set out to be, um, I can create any animal that I want. Um, in this campaign there are dragons, and we did meet a dragon. Okay. So my familiar is a dragon. It's a little baby dragon. Okay. Um.
SPEAKER_01That's why you want to clap them cheeks of OB?
SPEAKER_02Maybe.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, but that's like a lot of the races in a lot of the classes. You can multi-class, so you can do multiple classes. I suppose you get far, because you have to level up to pick another class. So right now we are level, I want to say six. I could be wrong. We haven't played in so long. Okay. It's very sad. I also didn't bring my dice. Sorry. Should have reminded me. Hey, I was a little busy. I know. Um, any questions? Any more questions, I should say?
SPEAKER_01Not right now.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_01That was like my main thing. Because I used to play League of Legends a long time ago. Um, and every time like we would set up our team, we would always have to make sure we had a healer, uh, person that fights up close, person that fights from a distance, like a support character kind of situation. So that's why I was wondering if that was the same way for DD. That was like logically the smarter thing to do, or you just say fuck it and just go for it. Logically, the smarter thing to do. Um we are human and we're not very smart.
SPEAKER_00Um, in reality, there's a lot of times where you like there's only four of us, so one is a DM and then the other through play. So it's a lot more fun to play with more people. Okay. Um, it's still fun with the three of us, just because there's more people to kind of interact with.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah, yeah. Um more story, I guess. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. I did have a question. Just came to my brain. The dice. Why so many? What is up with the numbers? And how often do you have to use them? I got you. So, and why are they all fucking different? Because there's it's true. It's so confusing. Okay, go ahead.
SPEAKER_00So, when you make your character, you have to roll d6s. That's why those are small. Okay, yeah, you gotta roll d6s, you add them up, and then that number is one of your stats. So how many you have to roll? Let me get a character sheet up.
SPEAKER_01Um, okay, yeah, because when I got you um dice for Christmas one year, I was looking at them and I was like, why are they all different and why are there so many? Like they're pretty. I just don't know what they're used for.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Okay, so you roll 4d6, okay, add them all up. Well, you drop the lowest number, and then add a three up. Okay. So let's say you rolled a five, a three, right now, a one, and a six. Okay. You drop the one, okay. You would add the five, four, and six, so fifteen.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_00And that you would put in one of your stat blocks, which there's seven of. So there's strength, dexterity, constitution, intelligence, wisdom, and charisma. So strength, pretty self-explanatory. It's how strong you are. Dexterity is how dexterous you are, so how quick you can get out of a like a fireball. Okay. Constitution is more for like your concentration or your will. Okay. Um, intelligence is intelligence. Wisdom is how wise you are. Um that's also how you can perceive things. Um, and then charisma is how you can lie to people or persuade people, and then there are skills that go along with that. So for dexterity, let's say, there's like acrobatics, um, athletics, actually, athletics is strength, um, but like acrobatics or um stealth. Okay. Um, so there's a lot of those. But you would roll 46, drop the lowest, um, and you would do that eight times. Okay. And then drop the lowest of those eight.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_00And then, based on what character you want to play, you would put these into the um stat blocks. So if you're playing a barbarian, that is like a up-close fighter, you want to be really strong, you don't necessarily need to have too much wisdom or intelligence necessarily. So that could be like your lowest roles. Okay. Your biggest role you probably want in strength. Um, and then maybe like constitution. For a rogue, you want your biggest role to be in dexterity, so you hide better, and maybe like maybe wisdom. Okay. Um, because then you can lie or persuade. If you're playing a fighter, you maybe want your dexterity pretty high, and then maybe like wisdom or intelligence. Okay. So there's different stats that you might want higher than others, just for your race or your class. Okay. So that's a d6. These also can some of the weapons might take or use a d6 for the damage roll. Okay. Pretty much any of the dice could be used for a damage roll, depending on what you're using. Okay. What's the big one for? The 20? Yeah. That's for um if you're rolling an attack or a skill check or a saving throw. Or sometimes the DM might have you roll it for something secret. Like, roll a d220. Be like, what do I add to it? You're like, nothing. Just roll a d20.
SPEAKER_01Oh, Jesus. You're like, oh, you're dead. Sorry. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00So obviously, if you roll a 20, that's called a natural 20. That is the best you can do. So typically, if you're rolling like a skill check, um, you automatically succeed, and then something cool might happen. Something extra cool. Okay. Um, there's always like a a DC you want to hit, like a minimum that you want to hit. Um, you might not know what it is, but the DM will know. And then they'll say if you hit or not, or if you save or not, or if you succeed on your skill check or not.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_00The one under that is a D12. That's usually for damage. And then a D10, also usually for damage. Um, there's also a percentile die, so it goes by tens. It's a d10, but it it the numbers on it are by tens. So it's a 10, 20, 30, 40. Okay. Um, so that one, if they roll, if you ask you to roll percentile, you'll roll a d10, a regular d10, and then that percentile die. And you would designate one as the tens and one as the ones, and then d6s. Oh, there's d eights as well. That's also for damage, usually. Okay, and then d4s, they're little triangles. Yes, yep. I remember those. Um, that could be for damage. There's also a spell called guidance. There's a spell called bless, and there's a spell called Bane. Um, that's the ones I could think of off the top of my head. Those use d4s. Um bane is it's like a deterrent for enemies, so you have to roll d4 and minus that from your d20 roll. Okay. Bless is the opposite, so it's for your campaign characters. So I cast bless on you. If you're rolling an attack roll with d20, you also roll d4 and add it to your roll. Jesus Christ. Okay. Um, and then guidance, it's like a little help me. So if you're rolling like a skill check, somebody could cast guidance on you, and you add a d4 to that. Okay. That's a lot of the dice. That's a lot.
SPEAKER_01I would get so lost. You don't use all the dice all the time. So I would still be like, what am I doing again?
SPEAKER_00What is this for? I watched a lot of DD before I played, so I kind of got the hang of it. So, what you're telling me is I don't need to watch a lot of DD. Yeah, you should watch um Critical Role does this. They're called one-shots. So it's just one episode.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, but how long is it?
SPEAKER_00Like 12 hours? No, it took four hours. Four hours.
unknownGod damn.
SPEAKER_00Then watch an hour and then like like a show. Just watch an hour and then come back to it. Watch another hour.
SPEAKER_01It's gonna take me like four days to finish one video.
SPEAKER_00If you do it that way, or you could just watch the whole thing, or you can just watch the whole thing. Who needs sleep? Yeah.
unknownOh my god.
SPEAKER_00They're live in California at 7 p.m. So at 10 p.m. here is when they go live. Jesus Christ. And you watch it, yeah. Or watch the next day. But if I'm up, I'll watch it. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Any more questions? I don't think I have any right now. I'm gonna do. I'm sure I'll have more. Um, do you know?
SPEAKER_01The Muffin Man? Absolutely. Do you yeah?
SPEAKER_00He lives on Drury Lane. That's crazy. I didn't even know that. What? Do you know Deborah Ann Wall? Fuck no. Okay, she's an actress. Um, but she's also a DM. She's been a character on critical role.
SPEAKER_01Um her face looks familiar, but I don't know from what.
SPEAKER_00Oh, she's an actor, so yeah.
SPEAKER_01She she looks familiar. I just don't know from what. Like I can't pinpoint her into like something specific. Usually I'm pretty good with that, but I can't know her. She's very pretty though. Um The Last of Us, she plays DD.
SPEAKER_00Ashley Johnson.
SPEAKER_01I don't know names.
SPEAKER_00She's in critical role.
unknownAh.
SPEAKER_00So she was on a podcast with John Barenthal.
SPEAKER_01You're saying names, I don't know names.
SPEAKER_00Wow.
SPEAKER_01Look, I know faces. I have a hard time with names. I didn't even know his name. Well, you know him? Kind of, yeah. Punisher? Yeah. Okay. What else? I don't know. Beautiful man. Beautiful man. Debatable. At least for me. At least for me.
SPEAKER_00I don't care. Respect. Respect. So he has a podcast, and she was on it. Okay. And he was, she said, would you ever no, she said, Do you want to play DD? And he's like, Yeah, try it. And she's like, no, right now. And he's like, what? And she said, Um, I'm gonna ask you this question, the way she asked him. Oh god, okay, here we go. I'm gonna tailor it a little bit. So, what character would you create, do you think?
SPEAKER_01Um, in my brain, while you were talking, I created the most depressing character.
SPEAKER_00Do it. What is it?
SPEAKER_01I don't know. Like, I don't remember all the thingies. I just know what they look like. Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_00So was it a human or I don't know.
SPEAKER_01It's not very I'm not, I'm sorry, I'm not making this easy. No, you're good.
SPEAKER_00Um she didn't ask him to create a character, she just started like basically DMing a quick scenario for him. But I want to tailor it to what character you might like kind of make. Okay. So do you want to be an up close fighter, a healer, uh, magic user, ranger?
SPEAKER_01Uh um a stealthy one, a beefy one, not beefy. Okay. What I picture in my head, and you can help me with the things. Um, he's very, that's a guy. He's a very um scrawny, very like down all of the time. Okay. Like his demeanor, or like he will convince you to just pity him, okay, in a sense. Um, but everything is just like he's kind of like Eeyore. It's kind of given like Eeyore, kind of like that. But like that's how he like wins fights and stuff like that. Like, he'll convince you to just pity him and be like, you know what, just fucking go. Bro, just go. Just go, you can pass. It's like I'm you know, like they just like or or they have the ability to just kind of like make the bad the baddie depressed and sad and like in their feelings and stuff like that. Probably a bard. Okay.
SPEAKER_00There we go. Um so bards have this ability, um, a spell called vicious mockery. Okay. So essentially you can just mock the person, okay, um, and that will do damage to them. Okay. So that's pretty kind of in the realm. On what you're trying. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01They'd be like, oh, you know, you can't pass. They'd be like, well, okay. Like, what's the point of living anyway? We're all gonna die. Like that kind of situation.
SPEAKER_00And bards have really good um charisma. So that would persuade someone or lie, you can easily lie to someone. Okay. Um, so that's probably you're kind of gearing towards. Okay.
SPEAKER_01At least with this character. Um black and white, that's it. No color at all. Just some black and white, grayscale character. Yeah. Oh, you I thought of constantly have a has a frown. It's just depressed. Literally because it gives off depression. Okay.
SPEAKER_00So let's say a bard. Do you have like a race in mind? You said scrawny. Just be human, maybe. I guess. Or an elf. There's moon elves, so they're like, or a dark elf. They're like a dark skin tone, dark hair, dark everything. Oh guess that might be.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. I don't want to be human. Fuck that. Fun to be creating a character. I don't want to be human.
SPEAKER_00I'm just gonna AI create your character with the code. Oh god, this is gonna be interesting. I think um, I think this is gonna be good. Sad. I'm gonna put sad. Sad.
SPEAKER_01Very sad. Very depressing. This literally gives off Eeyore. Nobody loves me. I'm all alone.
SPEAKER_00While that's loading. So um on the podcast, she asked, This is a little different, but you just say you're in the woods and you come upon a fork in the road. Um, there's a sign on the right that says safe, and a sign on the left that says turn back. What do you do?
SPEAKER_01With my character and their mindset, turn back to just take the wrong one. Not the safe route. Absolutely not. Okay.
SPEAKER_00Okay. So you go down that path, and it starts getting darker and darker. It's my vibe.
SPEAKER_01I'm home. It's just your house. I'm going home.
SPEAKER_00Um you all of a sudden see two eyes in the darkness. What do you do?
SPEAKER_01Uh just keep going. Just keep pushing. Okay. Wonder what the hell it is. I'm like, oh, it's there. It might kill me. Whatever. You I have no fear. None.
SPEAKER_00Alright, you see four more eyes. Uh-huh. Just kind of populating around it. Okay.
SPEAKER_01So it's like it's just like a monster with multiple eyes. Okay. It's in your path. Oh, it's in my way. And I have to like go around it. Yeah. Okay. What do you do? I just be very depressed and sad. And just make it pity me. Or I'll make it depress itself.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_00I wish I had spells to help you. I know. Or dice. Okay. Well, I'd say probably like roll a persuasion check. So that would be a d20. Okay. Well, let's say you rolled. What would you roll?
SPEAKER_01What would I roll? Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Let's just pick a number.
SPEAKER_01Um I roll uh eight.
SPEAKER_00Plus your persuasion. Let's say because you're a bard, it's a plus five. So 13. Okay. Um, I hope that's good. Let's say the DC was 10. So you beat it. Nice. So the spider thing starts crying from all five of its eyes.
SPEAKER_01Yes. It's okay. I'll cry with you.
SPEAKER_00Um, yeah, so that's kind of kind of what it is. Okay. Um, you'd roll for checks like that. Um, if you were physically attacking, you'd roll for an attack. But you kind of create your own story, essentially. Okay.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Okay. That's really cool. Makes sense. Makes sense. I got that. Here's your character. Oh, Jesus. Oh, he's just depressing and sad. Oh, with a little pout. Hopeless, apathetic, sad, exhausted. That sounds like a description of me. The light is loud. I prefer the quiet. That's dope.
SPEAKER_00Is he everything you ever wanted?
SPEAKER_01Uh kind of. That is very cool.
SPEAKER_00You can kind of make your character whatever you want.
SPEAKER_01Okay. Cool, cool, cool. For the listeners, or the you know, visuals. Based off of my description of my character, what do you think it would look like? Like if you can draw it for me or give me some fan art of what you think my character looks like, I would love to see it. And do you want fan art of yours, Sarah?
SPEAKER_00I can create a new one.
SPEAKER_01Okay. Or actually make it the polar opposite of mine. I'd probably be an elf, but a high elf.
SPEAKER_00Okay. They're like bold.
SPEAKER_01Alright, high fee. I've read Avatar. Um High Fei. No, it's around royalty. Yes. Um that's me.
SPEAKER_00Um actually. No, I'll go with high elf. So I want to be six and a half feet tall with pink hair. And pink hair. Yeah. And it's a girl. And just the flowyest like hippie dresses. Okay. With a lot of fabric just like flowing behind me in the wind. My hair is flowing in the wind. Just the most bubblest looking big elf. Happy.
SPEAKER_01Happy. Very literally the opposite. Yes. Okay. I'm done with that. I cannot wait to see creations. This is gonna be very interesting. Very, very interesting. How do you feel?
SPEAKER_00Already an hour and five minutes.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. I mean, you could literally talk forever about this. I could talk forever.
SPEAKER_00I love Dee Dee so much. I know. Makes me so happy. And I'm so sad we haven't played in so long.
SPEAKER_01It'll happen. Maybe now that Ricky hears this, he's gonna be like, I'm gonna be famous. I'm like, I'm gonna be famous. I'm on the podcast. Like, we need to play now. We need to play now. You need to give him an update.
SPEAKER_00The only thing is that everybody has different work schedules. Yeah.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_00So being an adult's hard. It is. We'll see though. That'll work out. At this point. Yeah. We might have similar schedules.
SPEAKER_01It'll work out. It'll work out. I would I would like to witness one, not play yet, because that's a lot to take in. And my brain can only hold so much. But I'd rather just like watch.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. We play on Saturdays usually. So that'd be a little tough. Yeah. Sometimes Sundays. Okay. But our sessions go like seven hours.
SPEAKER_01Jesus. Yeah. It's like a shift. Like a very small shift, but still. Shift. A shift of fun. A shift of fun. Better than sleeping at work for 12 hours.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. But that's also because we when we don't see each other, we spend a lot of time catching up when we first get to get it. Um and then somebody gets hungry, so we'll start ordering food or go out for food. And the people that are just waiting just keep talking.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00So then we might go into tangents, and then even though people come back with their food, we're still in the tangent.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah, absolutely.
SPEAKER_00That's a vibe. That's a vibe.
SPEAKER_01Especially when you hook up with friends and stuff like that. That's really cool.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Anyways.
SPEAKER_01It's not as fun when it's like the ice is gone or almost gone.
SPEAKER_00You can hear the progression of the melting ice from the beginning until now.
SPEAKER_01Very true. And you can see the difference between my drinking and your drinking.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. I have more than half left. I have and Chamel's done.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. I have nothing. Alright.
SPEAKER_00Well, I hope you enjoyed that episode.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, this was uh DD with Sarah. DD 101 with Sarah. And me just listening and being lost. It's great.
SPEAKER_00It's okay. If anybody has questions, let me know.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, for sure. Um, I definitely want to see some artwork. Yeah, I'm very curious to see what you guys would come up with. Um, but yeah. Any questions we want to ask them for next episode? Oh, do you do you want to hear more DD talk or nerdy talk in a sense?
SPEAKER_00Yes. Say yes. It'll be so fun. And then next time we can play Smash or Pass. Smash or Pass with the critical rule characters.
SPEAKER_01Oh. Okay. Yeah, because I have to do my homework. I don't know any of this stuff. I'm uh new to all of this, but thank you for teaching me your ways. Alright. Half have it in here. The other half. That's okay. It it went in and then some of it came out.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. That that would happen. It's a lot of it was like information overload.
SPEAKER_01Yes. I'm one of those people where if you tell me a name, the second it comes out of your mouth and it goes into my ears, I forget. Oh, same. Yeah. It's like when I meet new people.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_01You'd be like, oh yeah, my name is Michael. I don't remember your name. We could be in the middle of a conversation, and I'm thinking in my head the entire time, what is your name again? You just told me five seconds ago, and I still don't know what the fuck your name is. Yeah. And then they'd be like, oh, it was nice to meet you, Shamel. I'm like, oh yeah, you too. And then just walk away. Bye. Bye, you. I try to be good with the names, but it's not it's not possible. Yeah. So that's how I am with like you describing all the classes and stuff.
SPEAKER_00Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_01You said them all and I forgot.
SPEAKER_00I feel like maybe information or like the description of the classes or the races probably would stick better.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Maybe if I read it. Yeah. Being told of me reading it is different.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I'm a visual person too. Yeah. Yeah. Anyways. Thanks for listening to me ramble. Of course. Um, hope everybody enjoyed. I can't wait to see some art.
SPEAKER_01Ah, thank you guys for joining us. Another episode Two Girls No Chill. I'm stretching. This is great. Till next time. Bye. Love you, bye.
